Take 36 Winners from March 24-26 race in downtown Wichita

With 21 teams competing in the Take 36 race this weekend, over 400 people gathered at the Orpheum Wichita for the showcase on Sunday with the winners being announced by host Max Wilson of the Crown Arts Collaborative and judges Charity and Sara Harmon on stage as well as Lonita Cook tuned in virtually from Kansas City.

The top prize winning $1,000 Cash, All-access TALLPasses to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival, and Official Selection at the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival. Our Grand Prize winner is TEAM 16 Mal-Adjusted directed by Rylee Dulaney.

Hannah Bothner, Take 36 producer, said “The teams had a slightly cooler weekend this spring than our usual summer race and the change of season seems to have worked well with the most teams signed up since pre-pandemic times. Wichita’s creatives are on full display with our filmmaking race teams. We are so excited to showcase the Grand Prize and Audience winner at the festival this fall”

The second place winner, receiving a prize of $500 and All-access FilmPasses to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival, is TEAM 3 Saving Taco Tuesday directed by Brett Eitzen.

Third Place, winning $500 and Individual Film Tickets to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival, is TEAM 19 Second Harvest directed by Victoria Gayer & Naythan Smith.

The Female Filmmaker Award includes a prize of $500 and All-access Tallpasses to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival and goes to McKenzey Bell & Alexis Cruz DIRECTOR OF A Thread, TEAM 4.

The Student Filmmaker Award, which includes a prize of $500 and All-access Tallpasses to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival goes to Dakota Dart and Brandon Zhang DIRECTORS OF Paradise Duel, TEAM 10.

On the spot. Roger Scholfield added a bonus prize for the short gratuitous product placement award and gave Dart and Zhang $100 each.

The audience winner which includes a $100 prize sponsored by the Kansas African American Museum, All-access TALLPasses to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival and will be an Official Selection at the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival, and the winner is TEAM 19 Second Harvest directed by Victoria Gayer & Naythan Smith

Programmer Awards go to any of the 21 films, not just the top ten, and are selected from pre-screeners, producer Hannah Bothner and judges:

  • The best Actor is Sheldon Chinedu Mba from Lifetime Warranty, TEAM 21

  • The best Actress is Molly Strickler from Palindrome, TEAM 2

  • Best Ensemble Cast is the cast of TEAM 3, Saving Taco Tuesday DIRECTED BY Brett Eitzen

  • Best Cinematography went to Naythan Smith, TEAM 19, Second Harvest

  • Best Editing went to Eric Freel, TEAM 14, Scream Into the Void

  • The best Score/Soundtrack is for Emerson Welsh & Luke Parrett, TEAM 8, Vernley’s First Mission

  • The best Screenplay went to Nathan Strack, TEAM 16, Mal-Adjusted

  • Best Visual Effects went to TEAM 13, The First 36, DIRECTED BY Scott E. Warren

  • Best Costume Design went to Ben Laffen, TEAM 16, Mal-Adjusted

  • Best Hair and Make-up Design went to TEAM 17, Tarants, DIRECTED BY Brennan Barger & Travis McCarty

  • Best Production Design went to TEAM 11, You, Me, and the Radio, DIRECTED BY Jon Paul Beddow, Pankaja Withanachchi, Saj Fernando

  • Best Use of Required Elements goes to TEAM 18, My Buddy, Box, directed by Jarrod MadduThe bestest Emerging Filmmaker Team goes to TEAM 14, Scream Into The Void directed by Eric Freel.
