About Take 36

The competition is open to professionals, film enthusiasts, first-time filmmakers, and students of all ages who are up for the ultimate creative challenge. Anyone with an interest in filmmaking at any level is welcome to compete.

This weekend-long event tasks teams with creating an original short film in 36 hours, while incorporating random elements to create wholly original content. Teams must write, shoot and edit a short film (up to 6 minutes) within the span of 36 hours.

The second annual Take 36 film competition, presented by Emprise Bank, took place on August 21-23, 2o20.

More than 115 filmmakers participated – spread across 16 teams – all tasked with completing 6 minute short films that were required to include the following:

  • A montage sequence
  • A reflection shot
  • A random holiday (chosen from a list of random celebrations including Pi Day, Penguin Awareness Day and more)
  • A houseplant

Our Top 10 showcase was judged by a panel of Tallgrass alumni filmmakers Kate Gondwe, Grace Hahn, and David Phillips.
