Just weeks after USA Today named Tallgrass Film Association the top 10 best film festivals in the US for 2024, MovieMaker Magazine again recognized the festival as one of the 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee. The festival is hosting an open house on Wednesday, May 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in its downtown microcinema (120 E. 1st. St. N, Unit 113) to reveal the 22nd annual festival’s artwork and to celebrate the multiple awards. It is free and open to the public.
“Parties every night, panels every day, free headshots, and plenty of free food are just some of the draws of this highly regarded festival, which is also one of our 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World. Under the exemplary leadership of executive director Melanie Addington, Tallgrass lives up to its “stubbornly independent” mantra while going out of its way to give filmmakers every possible advantage and help them forge lifelong partnerships.”
MovieMaker, a film magazine, and website based in Los Angeles compile its annual list based on surveys, filmmaker testimonials, and visits to festivals, among other factors. Key considerations include how much assistance a festival provides to traveling filmmakers; recent premieres at the festival; opportunities to meet distributors, fans, fellow filmmakers, and press; and whether festivals are Academy-qualifying.
