  • Any Music, Talent and Location releases you have. You are required to have a talent release for all participants in your film, music releases for any music included in your film, and location releases for all locations used in your film.

Find the forms you need here, one Participation Agreement is needed from each team, signed by the director or producer, each person that works on or is featured by your team needs to sign a Talent Release form, all music in your film needs a Music Release Form and all locations in your film need a Location Release Form.

Take 36: Take 2

In Partnership With Visit Wichita

If Take 36 is a marathon, Take 36: Take 2 is the walk to your car after you’ve run the race! If you’ve always been intimidated by making a film in only 36 hours, or if you’ve been wanting to practice your documentary skills, or if you just love making films this is the race for you! 

Tallgrass and Visit Wichita are tasking you with making a short Faces, Places, Hearts spot for Visit Wichita! The films will be judged by a secret panel of judges and the winners will receive cash prizes, passes or tickets to the 20th Annual Tallgrass Film Festival and the grand prize winner will be used as a social media campaign for Visit Wichita and shown at the festival!

Your film should capture the Faces, Places, Hearts of Wichita. Choose a place, person, group of people, historical fact, something local to focus on and tell that story. We want to see how you tell the stories of your community! 

The film should be around 30 seconds and no longer than 2 minutes. It should be a documentary. We’re going to be looking for good storytelling, uniqueness, stories that make you feel good, does the story tug at a person’s heart as they are watching? Does it show Wichita’s vibe? Does it show off Wichita as the cool, interesting, fun city we know it to be? Your film shouldn’t include any cursing, nudity, violence and anything defamatory. We also ask that you stay away from politics and divisive and offensive issues. We want these to be fun, feel good stories that show the pride we have in our city and the cool people, places and stories Wichita has.

Technical Specs:

  • Must have five seconds of black screen before and after your film.
  • Must be self contained (without references or links to other movie files) 
  • Quicktime H.264 (.mp4)
  • Film must be submitted in HD (1080p)
  • Without proprietary codecs (no avid or final cut pro codecs) 
  • Be sure that your quicktime H.264 has audio!
  • AAC with the highest/best quality

Films Must be Submitted by: 11:59 pm on October 9

Winners Will be Announced on Social Media: October 14



Grand Prize Winner:

Will receive $500 cash prize and All Access VIP Tallpasses to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival, used as part of a social media campaign for Visit Wichita, shown as a commercial for Visit Wichita at the festival.

Second Place:

Will receive $250 cash prize and Film Passes to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival.

Third Place:

Will receive $250 cash prize and individual film tickets to the 21st Annual Tallgrass Film Festival.

Tallgrass pass and ticket prize quantity may be limited.

Visit Wichita is the official destination marketing organization for the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County. The organization’s goal is to grow the travel and tourism economy. To learn more about tourism in Wichita visit www.visitwichita.com.

Who is the audience for these films?

The audience for this project is locals, as well as visitors in key drive markets – Tulsa, Oklahoma City, OK; Dallas, TX; Kansas City, MO; Topeka, KS and western Kansas. The primary goal is to inspire travel considerations for Wichita.

What would Visit Wichita find appealing about a video project?

The organization would like to see videos that showcase Wichita’s vibe or what’s unique to the community through creative storytelling about places, faces and hearts of this community. In marketing, storytelling is considered king and visitors in particular want to know what makes a place special.
